Oakland, CA - Victor Martinez belted a two-run homer and Hector Luna added a solo shot, as the Cleveland Indians rolled over the Oakland Athletics, 7-2, in the opener of a four-game set at McAfee Coliseum.
Jake Westbrook (13-10), who snapped a personal two-game skid, pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing two runs -- one earned -- on nine hits with five strikeouts and a walk.
Luna drove in two runs and scored twice for the Indians, who won for only the third time in their last 10 games. Casey Blake also had two RBI for Cleveland.
Dan Haren (14-12) surrendered seven runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings with four walks and two strikeouts. It was his shortest outing of the season.
The Athletics, whose magic number to win the AL West remains at seven, had a four-game winning streak snapped.
Cleveland took a 2-0 lead in the first on Martinez's 16th home run of the season, which also scored Jason Michaels, who walked to reach base.
Blake's two-out two-run double in the third put the Indians up by four. Andy Marte led off with a single and Grady Sizemore followed with a two-bagger before the Tribe loaded the bases on an intentional walk to Martinez.
Luna's shot in the fourth put the Indians up 5-0.
Cleveland added two runs in the fifth. Blake singled to lead off and reached third on Jhonny Peralta's base hit with one out. Luna's fielder's choice then plated Blake. After Ron Flores replaced Haren, Luna moved to third on Marte's single and touched home on a wild pitch.
Oakland finally got on the scoreboard in the home half with two runs. Marco Scutaro led off with a base hit and following a double by Mark Ellis, Jason Kendall reached on a fielding error by second baseman Luna, which scored Scutaro in the process. Ellis, who moved to third on the miscue, was plated by Mark Kotsay's sacrifice fly.
