Sep 17, 2006, 3:40 GMT
Arlington, TX - Mark Teixeira went 4-for-4 with four runs batted in and Michael Young had three hits and scored four times for the Texas Rangers, who clobbered the LA Angels of Anaheim, 12-6, in the third of a four- game series at Ameriquest Field.
Gary Matthews Jr. added two hits and scored twice for the Rangers, who won for only the fourth time in their last 10 games.
Adam Eaton (6-4) earned the win, surrendering four runs on 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings with a pair of strikeouts.
Chone Figgins hit for the cycle in defeat, finishing 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. He managed the most difficult part of the cycle in the ninth, smacking a run-scoring triple.
Figgins' cycle was the sixth in Angels' history and the first since Jeff DaVanon on April 25, 2004.
John Lackey (11-11), who has just one win in his last nine starts, lasted only four innings, yielding six runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
The Rangers scored twice in the fourth to go up 6-2 when Teixeira lined his 42nd double of the season off of reliever Greg Jones to plate Young, who walked with one out. Carlos Lee's base hit then scored Teixeira.
Figgins' home run to lead off the fifth cut Texas' lead in half, but the Rangers scored twice in the home half for an 8-3 advantage. Matthews' sac fly scored Nelson Cruz, who singled and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Mike Napoli. After Young tripled, Teixeira flied out to right allowing Young to touch home.
Maicer Izturis' RBI single in the seventh cut the Angels deficit, 8-4.
The Rangers put up four runs in the home half to take a commanding 12-4 lead. After Gerald Laird led off with a double and Cruz followed up with a single, Matthews walked, but a wild pitch by reliever Chris Bootcheck allowed Laird to score.
Young then lined a single to center, plating Cruz. After Teixeira's base hit scored Matthews, Dustin Moseley replaced Bootcheck, who failed to record an out. Moseley got Lee to ground into a double play, but Young scored from third in the process.
Figgins' RBI triple and Izturis' sac fly added two runs for the Angels in the ninth.
Texas jumped to a quick 4-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by Teixeira and Mark DeRosa, an RBI double by Lee and a fielding error by Izturis which plated Teixeira.
Napoli's run-scoring double and Figgins' RBI single in the second made it a 4-2 game.
