From Monsters and Critics.com Men's College Basketball West Lafayette, IN - Purdue men's basketball coach Matt Painter has agreed to a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the Boilermakers through the 2012-13 season. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Painter guided the Boilermakers to a record of 22-12 last season, including a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He has a record of 31-31 in his two years at the helm. 'I'm very excited about the future of Purdue basketball,' Painter said. 'I'm thankful for the commitment that [athletic director] Morgan Burke and the university have made to our program. I'm honored and thrilled to be able lead the men's basketball program for the next six seasons.' Purdue's 13-win turnaround from 9-19 in 2005-06 marked the fourth-best improvement in the country. 'Matt is putting his mark on the Boilermaker men's basketball program,' said Burke. 'I know he has the passion, knowledge and understanding to position Purdue basketball among the elite programs in the country. We are pleased to provide this endorsement of the work he has done to date.' Painter took over the program on April 1, 2005 after serving as Gene Keady's associate head coach in 2004-05. Before coming to West Lafayette, Painter led Southern Illinois to a 25-5 mark and was named Missouri Valley Coach of the Year following the 2003-04 season. © 2007 The Sports Network
