Riverside, CA - UC Riverside announced Wednesday that Jim Wooldridge has been named head coach of the men's basketball program.

Wooldridge, who will officially be introduced at a press conference on Thursday, replaces David Spencer, who missed most of the 2006-07 season due to health issues, and announced on March 13 he would not return for next year.

'Jim Wooldridge brings a wealth of knowledge about what it takes to build a program and to position a team to not only compete, but to win,' said director of athletics Stan Morrison. 'His single focus will be immediately apparent to his players, assistants, and colleagues in the department. At the same time, he will be in our community in a number of ways and he will serve as a wonderful ambassador of his program, our department of athletics and our university.'

Wooldridge is the sixth head coach in team history and has compiled a record of 312-237 in 19 seasons as a head coach with Central Missouri State, Texas State, Louisiana Tech and Kansas State.
