Washington, DC - George Washington extended the contract of men's basketball head coach Karl Hobbs through June 30, 2012, the school announced Monday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Hobbs is entering his seventh season at George Washington, his first head coaching job, and has an overall career record of 114-65, including a 72-20 mark and three NCAA Tournament appearances over the past three seasons. The Colonials have won two Atlantic 10 tournament titles in the last three seasons under Hobbs.
'Karl has done an outstanding job for us here at GW,' said Jack Kvancz, GW director of athletics. 'He is a special person who is also an excellent coach.'
'I am impressed by coach Hobbs' continued commitment to student-athletes in their athletic pursuits and in the classroom,' said GW president Steven Knapp. 'We are very fortunate to have a coach of his caliber and character at GW.'
A former assistant coach for eight seasons at the University of Connecticut, Hobbs was hired away on May 7, 2001. This is his third contract extension. His last extension was due to expire in 2011.
