Winston-Salem, NC - Wake Forest has named Dino Gaudio its new men's basketball coach.
Gaudio will replace Skip Prosser, who died of an apparent heart attack on July 26.
'This is a very bittersweet moment for me,' said Gaudio. 'I love Wake Forest and I love the Atlantic Coast Conference. But I also love Skip Prosser and to become the head coach under these circumstances is not what I had envisioned. But I am also thrilled that I have been entrusted with the future of Deacon basketball by [athletic director] Ron Wellman.'
Gaudio, an assistant at Wake Forest for the past six seasons under Prosser, has prior head coaching experience. He was 36-72 in four seasons at Army from 1993-94 through 1996-97 and 32-52 in three years at Loyola-Maryland from 1997-98 through 1999-2000.
'Dino has proven himself to be an outstanding recruiter, tactician and overall coach,' said Wellman. 'His track record of developing student-athletes for success, both on the court and in life, is remarkable. I am confident that Dino will continue to move our basketball program forward just as Skip Prosser did.'
In addition to his six years as an assistant at Wake Forest, Gaudio was also a Prosser assistant at Xavier and Central Catholic High School in Wheeling, West Virginia.
