Columbia, MO - University of Missouri senior forward Kalen Grimes was dismissed from the team on Tuesday.
The action comes after Grimes, who started 24 of Missouri's 30 games last season and averaged 7.0 points and 5.6 rebounds, was involved in an incident in the St. Louis suburb of Florissant on July 7 and subsequently charged with second-degree felony assault.
'Based upon the information I have gathered, I have decided to dismiss Kalen from our program,' said Missouri head coach Mike Anderson. 'This is an unfortunate situation and one that I know he regrets, but it is in the best interest of Kalen and our program to move forward with this decision.'
It has been a tough month for the Tiger men's hoops squad. The program implemented a zero-tolerance policy after junior forward DeMarre Carroll was shot in the ankle during a disturbance outside a nightclub in Columbia on July 5.
'Although we have dismissed Kalen from our program, we will continue to help him through this difficult time,' Anderson added.
