Lawrence, KS - Kansas head coach Bill Self confirmed that guard Brandon Rush tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee last week.
Rush injured the knee during a pickup game last Thursday and immediately withdrew from the NBA draft Friday afternoon. An MRI on Friday confirmed the severity of the injury.
'The MRI report from last Friday confirms that Brandon did tear his ACL,' Self said. 'We did not announce the nature of the injury last week per Brandon's request. Friday was an emotional day for Brandon as he had worked very hard in preparation for the NBA pre-draft camp. By law we cannot comment on an injury without a player's consent.'
Rush averaged a team-high 13.8 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Jayhawks last season as Kansas won the Big 12 Conference Tournament before falling to UCLA in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
Rush was projected by many to be a first-round pick in next month's NBA draft and had planned on playing in the Orlando pre-draft camp, which begins Tuesday night.
'Brandon is in good spirits and is presently rehabbing as he prepares for surgery this week or early next week,' Self added.
