Lexington, VA - VMI junior forward Reggie Williams, who led Division I in scoring for last season, announced Tuesday he will test the waters by putting his name into the hat for the NBA Draft.
Williams, who averaged 28.1 points per game last season, said he won't hire an agent, meaning he'll have the option of coming back for his senior season at VMI if he withdraws his name before the June 18 deadline.
'I am making myself available for the draft because I felt that I had a successful season and I would like to explore my options at the next level,' said Williams. 'I do plan on returning to VMI to finish my education and receive my degree.'
Williams led VMI to the Big South Conference tournament finals last season while being selected to the All-Tournament team. He became the first player in conference history last season to log three 40-point games in a career. He scored in double figures in 32 of 33 games while producing 15 30-plus point games during the year.
'We support Reggie in his decision to test the waters in the NBA,' said VMI head coach Duggar Baucom. 'Reggie has a strong desire to play at the next level and he has the talent to do so. We hope that this process works out for Reggie and should make him a better player whether he is in the NBA or at VMI next year.'
