Colorado Springs, CO - Air Force has named Jeff Reynolds its new men's basketball coach.
Reynolds had been an assistant for the past two years under Jeff Bzdelik, who left the Falcons earlier this month to take the vacancy at Colorado.
'I want to thank the administration for thinking enough of me to allow me to direct this basketball program,' said Reynolds, who signed a five-year contract. 'My job here is to sustain the success of the program and take it to the next level. Directing this basketball program is a once in a lifetime opportunity.'
Reynolds has previously served as a head coach, leading programs at Division II Wingate and North Carolina Wesleyan College.
At Wingate, he posted a three-year record of 61-27 with marks of 23-6 and 26-4 in his final two seasons. His one-year stint at NC Wesleyan produced a record of 21-7 with a Dixie Conference championship.
Reynolds has also held Division I assistant coaching positions at James Madison, Winthrop, Tulane, North Carolina-Wilmington and his alma mater, North Carolina-Greensboro.
'Jeff Reynolds has a distinguished record as an assistant and head coach and has been honored at every level,' said athletic director Dr. Hans Mueh. 'He has had great success as a coach at eight different Division I and II programs before coming to Air Force at coach Bzdelik's request and was a key factor in Air Force's success as his top assistant coach.'
Bzdelik posted a record of 50-16 in his two seasons with Air Force, including a 26-9 mark this past season. The Falcons struggled down the stretch during the regular season and received only an NIT bid, but advanced to the semifinals of that postseason tournament.
