Apr 6, 2007, 3:50 GMT
Houston, TX - Jonathan Bailey, a walk-on member of the Rice basketball team, was killed Thursday morning.
The Houston Chronicle reports Bailey, who turned 22 on Wednesday, was stabbed to death after a confrontation at a College Station bar. It was there that Bailey celebrated his birthday with his twin brother.
'Obviously, we are shocked at this tragedy,' Rice head coach Willis Wilson said. 'Our thoughts and prayers are with Jonathan's family. Every member of our athletics community is grieving at the loss of a teammate and a friend.'
Bailey transferred to Rice for the start of the 2005-06 season from Texas State University and redshirted. He played in four games for the Owls this past season, playing a total of 10 minutes. He scored all of his four points in the Owls opener against Paul Quinn College.
Bailey's twin, Janson, was also injured and is being treated at a local hospital. The incident is under investigation.
