Washington's Hawes experiments jumping to NBA
Apr 6, 2007, 0:25 GMT
Seattle, WA - The University of Washington announced freshman center Spencer Hawes will experiment with making the jump to the NBA.
The 7-foot Hawes, who led the Huskies with 14.9 points per game this past season, announced his intention Thursday to make himself available for the June 28 draft. However, Hawes does not intend to hire an agent, enabling him to retain the option to withdraw from the draft and return for his sophomore season with the Huskies.
The deadline to withdraw from draft consideration is June 18.
'I'm just trying to take advantage of this opportunity to test the waters and see what happens. I'll go to the camps or workouts and try to improve my game and see where I stand,' Hawes said. 'I am not planning to sign with an agent, so the door is still open for me to return to UW. I'm still going to classes.'
Hawes shot 53.2 percent from the field and was second on the team with 6.4 rebounds per game.
