Butler tabs Stevens as head coach
Apr 5, 2007, 3:40 GMT
Indianapolis, IN - Butler moved quickly to get a new head men's basketball coach, naming Brad Stevens to the post, just two days after Todd Lickliter left to take over at Iowa.
Stevens recently completed his sixth season as an assistant coach under Lickliter. During those six seasons, Butler compiled a 131-61 record, won three Horizon League regular season championships and made four trips to postseason tournament play. That included two appearances in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Butler will formally introduce Stevens at a press conference Thursday afternoon.
'He's a familiar face to the program, having coached under Todd Lickliter and Thad Matta, and he embraces the Butler way,' athletic director Barry Collier said of Stevens. 'He's a highly intelligent and passionate coach who is extremely well-respected in the coaching ranks. We have the utmost confidence that we will continue to see great success in Butler basketball.'
This past season, Butler compiled a school-record 29-7 record.
