Carbondale, IL - Southern Illinois announced Sunday that men's basketball coach Chris Lowery has agreed to a seven-year, $750,000 per- year contract extension.
Lowery has led the Salukis to a 78-26 mark in three seasons, while extending their consecutive run of NCAA Tournament appearances to six, one of just 12 schools currently with that claim. SIU advanced to the Sweet 16 this past season.
'I am flattered by the University's offer, and it's desire to keep me as head coach,' said Lowery. 'I'm also extremely grateful for the support of our fans and alumni. Working together, our future remains very bright.'
Lowery originally had signed a four-year contract worth $180,000 per season in 2004, before which he spent three campaigns as an assistant on Bruce Weber's staff at both Southern Illinois and Illinois.
Lowery played point guard at Southern Illinois from 1990-94 and helped the team to two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in 1993 and 1994. During his career at the school, he scored 1,225 points and dished out 391 assists.
