Los Angeles, CA - Taylor Rochestie scored 20 points as No. 11 Washington State defeated Washington, 74-64, in the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 Tournament.
Derrick Low added 15 points for Washington State (25-6), which has won eight of its last 10 games and will now face USC in the semifinals on Friday. Robbie Cowgill donated 14 points and Kyle Weaver 13 in the win.
Washington State put the game away with an 18-8 run to close the game. Rochestie scored nine points during the spurt.
The Cougars shot 52 percent from the field
Quincy Pondexter deposited 15 points for Washington (19-13) while Jon Brockman had 13 points and eight rebounds. Artem Wallace added 10 points for the Huskies, who lost for the third time in as many tries versus WSU this season.
Washington State jumped on its cross-state rival out of the gate with a 9-2 run, capped by a Low jumper.
The Huskies fought back and a Spencer Hawes layup with 10:16 left in the first half tied the score at 13-13.
Soon after, a lay-in by Wallace put Washington ahead 17-15 with 8:36 left before the break.
The Huskies led the rest of the half and took a 36-32 advantage to the locker room.
Low's free throw with 16:53 remaining in the game tied the score at 40-40. After a Washington State turnover, Weaver put the Cougars up by two with a layup. The Cougars never trailed thereafter.
Washington's State's lead reached as high as seven, 50-43 with 12:19 left to play, but the Huskies would not go down easily.
Wahington used an 11-4 surge to tie the game at 54-54 with 7:56 to go.
Game Notes
The Huskies outrebounded the Cougars 31-24...This was Washington State's first Pac-10 tourney win since 1989...Despite losing the season series, the Huskies still lead the all-time series, 167-96.
