College Station, TX - Antanas Kavaliauskas scored a career- high 26 points, as the seventh-ranked Texas A&M Aggies closed out the regular season for both teams with a 94-78 victory over the Missouri Tigers.
A&M got the win, but the third-ranked Kansas Jayhawks clinched the Big 12 regular season title with a 90-86 win over the 15th-ranked Texas Longhorns at Allen Fieldhouse prior to the game.
Acie Law IV and Josh Carter added 20 points apiece for Texas A&M (25-5, 13-3), which carried a three-game winning streak into Wednesday's showdown at Texas, but despite an outstanding effort on the road, fell by a 98-96 final in double overtime.
'I don't want to leave,' Kavaliauskas said. 'Today in the first half, we didn't play well. We gave up a lot of points in the first half. They shot too many layups. In the second half we picked it up and played better.'
Stefhon Hannah scored 17 points and Keon Lawrence and Marshall Brown both added 13 for Missouri (18-11, 7-9), which seems to be on the outside of the NCAA Tournament picture as of now and dropped two of their last three.
Texas A&M got out to an early lead by scoring the first nine points of the game, but Missouri quickly got into it. The teams stayed neck-and-neck throughout the first half for a 42-42 halftime tie.
The Aggies blew the game open in the second half. After Brown's jumper 33 seconds into the stanza to break the tie, Texas A&M went on a 17-2 run capped by Carter's layup with 12:03 remaining.
'First of all, I tip my hat off and congratulate Texas A&M for a very good year,' Missouri coach Mike Anderson said. 'Billy (Gillispie) has done a very good job with this basketball team. I tell you what, Acie Law is a dynamite player and he showed why he's one of those top players in the country, especially in the second half.'
Missouri's bench saw ample action, outscoring the Aggie reserves, 44-18.
Game Notes
Missouri owns an 11-5 lead in the all-time series, but it was A&M that claimed victory in the previous meeting, taking a 54-51 decision in Columbia last season.
