Indianapolis, IN - Blake Schilb scored 28 points, and the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers shocked the 15th-ranked Butler Bulldogs, 75-71.
Majak Kou scored 13 points for the Ramblers (20-9, 10-5 Horizon), who won their seventh straight game for the first time since 1991-92. The win was the first by a Loyola team over a ranked team since 1986.
A.J. Graves poured in 24 points for the Bulldogs (25-5, 12-3) who have now dropped three of five. Mike Green scored 23 points, and Brandon Crone scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Butler.
Graves drove the lane and dropped in a layup to pull the Bulldogs to within 72-71, but Loyola's Tracy Robinson made two free throws with 25.9 seconds left to extend the Ramblers lead back to 74-71. Graves missed a three on the following possession that would have tied the game, and another Robinson free throw was too much as the Bulldogs fell to defeat.
Seven straight Loyola points to open the second half posted the Ramblers to a 45-33 advantage less than two minutes in. The Bulldogs scored eight straight, though, with a Graves layup pulling Butler to within 45-41 at the 16:17 mark.
Loyola pushed its lead back out to 10 points, at 52-42, but Butler ran off a 14-4 run, tying the game at 56 on a Green layup with 7:47 left.
The teams battled back and forth through the first half, with the Ramblers taking a 30-25 lead after a Leon Young layup with 5:27 left. Graves came back with a trey, though, cutting the deficit to 30-28. Loyola was able to maintain a slim lead through the rest of the half, but a three by Green with 1:28 left brought Butler to within 35-33.
Schilb hit a three with seven seconds left, though, sending the Ramblers into the half holding a 38-33 lead.
