Chapel Hill, NC - Reyshawn Terry scored 23 points on 7-of-8 shooting as fifth-ranked North Carolina blitzed Wake Forest, 104-67, at the Smith Center.
Tyler Hansbrough added 16 points for the Tar Heels (22-3, 8-2 ACC), who were coming off a huge road win at arch-rival Duke and scored over 100 points for the seventh time this season. Freshman Brandan Wright chipped in with 15 points -- on perfect 7-of-7 shooting from the floor -- seven rebounds and five assists.
Carolina equaled its largest win ever against Wake Forest. UNC also beat the Deacons, 100-63, on Jan. 25, 1984 at Carmichael Auditorium.
UNC shot 60.7 percent from the floor in the first half. That is the highest first half shooting percentage in an ACC game this year.
'I think it was about three and a half minutes where we didn't score and they came and took the lead,' UNC coach Roy Williams said. 'After that we were really good. We were really good on both ends of the court.'
Anthony Gurley netted 12 points for the Demon Deacons (11-13, 2-9), who have dropped eight of their past 10 games. Kyle Visser finished with 11 points before fouling out.
Trailing by one, 23-22, North Carolina broke open the game by closing the first half with a 29-9 run to take a commanding 51-32 edge into the locker room.
Wayne Ellington fueled the burst with a three from the right corner and the Tar Heels ran away from there.
The Demon Deacons never got closer than 19 points in the second half as the Tar Heels continued to dominate on the way to the finish line.
'I've never been one that believes in throwing it in the trash can and moving on to the next one,' Wake Forest coach Skip Prosser said. 'I think you can learn something from what happened. It's disconcerting, we've had good success against Carolina in the past, certainly not this year, but give them credit, they have quite a team.'
