Youngstown, OH - Mike Green poured in 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds, helping 13th-ranked Butler cruise past Youngstown State, 71-58 in a Horizon League matchup at the Beeghly Center.
Pete Campbell netted 20 and pulled down six boards for the Bulldogs (21-2, 9-1 Horizon), who have won seven straight games. A.J. Graves chipped in with 11 points in 36 minutes of action.
Quin Humphrey and Keston Roberts scored 17 apiece for the Penguins, (9-14, 4-7), losers of three straight and four of their last five. Byron Davis contributed 14 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Humphrey also recorded a game-high 12 rebounds in defeat.
Each side see-sawed with the lead in the early stages, until Butler's 19-5 surge, capped by back-to-back threes by Green and Julian Betko put the Bulldogs up 30-18 with five and a half minutes to play. Campbell's make with just over three minutes to go boosted Butler's advantage to 37-20, and it would be 39-23 at the break.
Drew Streicher's bucket with 4:19 played in the second half provided a 21- point lead, 48-27, which would be Butler's largest of the game. Youngstown State would get as close as 12 points when Davis sank one from beyond the arc with nine minutes to go, but the Bulldogs were able to keep the home team at arm's length the rest of the way.
