Indianapolis, IN - Mike Green scored a career-high 21 points, as the 15th-ranked Butler Bulldogs of the Horizon League pounded the Ball State Cardinals of the Mid-American Conference, 65-41, at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
'I think we take our focus up a notch each game, and we've got to keep taking it up a notch higher each game,' Green said. 'We have all the right pieces and we play as one. We did what we do best tonight and it worked out for us.'
Julian Betko and A.J. Graves both scored 11 points for Butler (10-0), which tied its third-best start in school history. The Bulldogs shot 18-for-45 (40 percent) from the field.
'I guess I'm mostly impressed by the way our guys played together,' Butler coach Todd Lickliter said. 'If you defend well, you do it as a team. If you're a good offense, you have to do that together, too.'
Anthony Newell netted 11 points as the only player in double figures for Ball State (3-5), which had a modest two-game winning streak snapped. The Cardinals shot a miserable 29.8 percent from the field.
Butler opened the game on a 22-7 run capped by a Betko three-pointer with 9:30 remaining, and led 35-17 at halftime. Butler never trailed thereafter.
Butler scored 19 points off turnovers compared to only four by Ball State. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Cardinals, 34-31.
