Philadelphia - Drake maintained a slim lead over San Diego in The Sports Network FCS Mid-Major poll released on Monday.
Following a tight 20-7 victory over Wisconsin-Platteville, the Bulldogs (3-0) received 14 of 25 first-place votes and squeezed past San Diego by two points, 238-236.
San Diego (3-0), a 49-13 winner over Big Sky Conference member Northern Colorado on Saturday, received the other 11 first-place votes.
Dayton (3-0) was the third team from the Pioneer Football League at the top of the Mid-Major poll. The Flyers were voted third in the pollfor the second straight week after stopping Central State 40-0.
Central Connecticut State (2-1) moved up one spot from fifth to fourth following a 56-34 victory over Southern Connecticut and Robert Morris (2-1) climbed from sixth to fifth with a 28-14 win over St. Francis, PA.
Albany (1-2) tumbled two places from fourth to sixth after losing at home against Hofstra 28-13.
Butler's 3-0 start caught the voter's attention as the Bulldogs jumped into the poll for the first time this season at No. 7. The Bulldogs edged St. Joseph's, IN. 11-8 on Saturday.
Iona, another team off to a 3-0 start, crawled from ninth to eighth this week in the wake of a 34-10 victory over Sacred Heart.
Stony Brook's 42-7 loss at Youngstown State caused the Seawolves to fall two places from seventh to ninth.
Duquesne slid from eighth to 10th after losing 28-17 at Brown on Saturday.
Monmouth had an open date, but the 0-2 Hawsks fell out of the rankings.
The Sports Network FCS Mid-Major Top 10 poll includes the 20 programs of the MAAC, NEC, and Pioneer Leagues, which play at a non-scholarship or limited scholarship level. An updated poll, which is based on the votes of selected media members and FCS mid-major Sports Information Directors, is announced each Monday during the regular season.
