Salt Lake City, UT - Tommy Grady passed for 246 yards and three touchdowns and Darrell Mack chipped in with three scores as Utah upset 11th-ranked UCLA 44-6.
Grady finished 17 of 30 and Mack added 115 yards on the ground on 19 carries and also grabbed three passes for 34 yards and two scores for Utah (2-0). Marquis Wilson had two catches for 56 yards and a TD, while Dallin Rogers pulled in a 12-yard score.
Ben Olson struggled for UCLA (0-2), completing 20 of 40 passes for 290 yards with three interceptions. Kai Forbath accounted for the Bruins only points with a pair of field goals. Brand Breazell had a decent game, catching six passes for 121 yards, while Kahlil Bell rushed for 60 yards on 12 carries.
Marcus Everett also pulled down five balls for 68 yards for UCLA.
UCLA won the coin toss and elected to defer and Utah wasted little time getting the first points of the contest. Starting from their own 18-yard line, the Utes went 82 yards on seven plays and put seven on the board when Grady connected with Wilson for a 53-yard score to give the home team the early advantage.
The Bruins responded on their ensuing drive with when Forbath hit for a 45-yard field goal to make it a 7-3 game.
With Utah trying to convert a 3rd-and-long in the early stages of the second stanza, Grady was dropped for an eight-yard loss and fumbled which Tom Blake recovered for UCLA at the Utes 36. However, the Bruins were unable to muster any offense and settled for a 52-yard field goal by Forbath.
Grady finished off a nine-play 61-yard scoring drive when he hit Mack for a 12-yard TD with 23 seconds left in the half to give the Utes a 14-6 advantage heading into the intermission.
After several punts by both teams early in the second half, Utah added a 47- yard field goal by Louie Sakoda with just over 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter, following a 39-yard punt and 17-yard return by Derre Richards, that put the Utes on the UCLA 29.
Utah continued to open it up from there. Following a fumble by Everett and touchback, the home team took over at its own 20. The Utes needed only seven plays to go 80 yards and finished off the drive when Corbin Loukes hit Rogers for a 12 yard score, putting Utah ahead 24-6 with just under six minutes left in the third stanza.
Olson threw an interception on UCLA's ensuing offensive set that led to another Utah field goal, this time a 45-yarder by Sakoda.
The game got even uglier from there for the No. 11 Bruins. Olson continued to struggle and the Utes capitalized again early in the fourth quarter. Mack's 5- yard grab for a score from Grady, completed a five-play, 59-yard drive that made the score 34-6.
Sakoda booted a 44-yarder with just under nine minutes to play and on the Bruins next possession, Olson was picked again that led to a four-yard TD run by Mack to make it 44-6.
