Coral Gables, FL - Miami Hurricanes coach Randy Shannon announced on Tuesday that senior quarterback Kyle Wright will start Saturday's game against Florida International.
Wright had been the second stringer for Miami's first two games, which saw them defeat Marshall in the opener, 31-3, but then get crushed by Oklahoma 51-13, last Saturday.
In those games, the team has managed to combine for a measly 168 yards through the air with just two touchdowns and one interception.
Wright came on to replace Kirby Freeman, who started both games, early during last week's loss to Oklahoma and finished the game 7-for-14 for 65 yards and a score.
'Kyle Wright will be the starting quarterback,' said Shannon. 'Both Kyle and Kirby did a decent job, but not what we need, and Kyle came into the game against Oklahoma and gave us a little spark. We feel like right now it's his opportunity to get us going.'
His last start came against Virginia Tech on November 4 of last season. He broke his wrist in that game and missed the Hurricanes' final four games of the season.
Wright is 14-7 as a starter at Miami. He has posted 4,123 yards and 27 touchdowns in 24 appearances. His 59.3 passing completion percentage ranks fourth-best in school history behind Bernie Kosar (62.3), Vinny Testaverde (61.3) and Steve Walsh (59.4).
