FCS weekly honors go to Cuff, Webb and Lynch

Sep 4, 2007, 16:20 GMT

Philadelphia, PA - Delaware running back Omar Cuff, Nicholls State defensive back Ladarius Webb and Appalachian State free safety Corey Lynch have been honored as the FCS players of the week by The Sports Network, the divisions most widely recognized sports information service.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Omar Cuff, Delaware - Senior, Running Back, 5-10, 195, Landover, MD

Cuff scored seven touchdowns to lead Delaware to a 49-31 victory Thursday night at William & Mary in the first game in Colonial Athletic Association history. Cuff rushed 30 times for 244 yards and six touchdowns and grabbed four passes for 52 yards and another score. He broke his own school records for touchdowns (7), rushing touchdowns (6) and points scored (42). With the CAA recognizing old Yankee Conference and Atlantic 10 records, Cuff also set new CAA records in those three categories.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ladarius Webb, Nicholls State, Defensive Back, 5-11, 206, Opelika, AL

Webb played a huge role in the Nicholls State 16-14 upset of FBS Rice on Saturday, intercepting three passes to kill off Owl drives. Webb also returned four kicks for 124 yards, including a 61-yard return that gave the Colonels the field possession to score a game-tying touchdown. Webb was part of a defensive effort that limited Rice to 218 yards of total offense.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Corey Lynch, Appalachian State, Free Safety, 6-0, 205, Cape Coral, FL

Lynch blocked a 37-yard field goal attempt on the final play of the game to secure Appalachian State's 34-32 victory over Michigan. He then scooped up the blocked kick and returned it 62 yards to the Wolverine six-yard line before being tackled. The upset was the first in college football history by an FCS school against an opponent ranked in the AP Top-25. Lynch also had a brilliant day defensive with 11 tackles, six of them solo stops.
