Houston, TX - Rice University has named David Bailiff its new head football coach.
Bailiff posted a record of 21-15 in three seasons at Texas State and guided his alma mater to the semifinals of the Division I-AA playoffs in 2005. The Bobcats were 5-6 this past season.
The 48-year-old will take over for Todd Graham, who left earlier this month to take the vacancy at Tulsa.
Before taking over at Texas State, Bailiff spent three seasons as an assistant at TCU. He was the Horned Frogs' defensive coordinator in 2002 and '03, when the team was 21-4.
Bailiff has also been an assistant on the Division I-A level at New Mexico and also had two stints as an assistant at Texas State.
Graham spent only one season at Rice and guided the Owls to a record of 7-6 with the school's first bowl appearance in 45 years. The squad won its final six games of the regular season, then dropped a 41-17 decision to Troy in the New Orleans Bowl.
