Kragthorpe to take over Louisville

Louisville, KY - The University of Louisville has named Steve Kragthorpe its head football coach, as he agreed to a five-year deal.Kragthorpe leaves Tulsa to replace Bobby Petrino, who moved on to become the head coach of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.'Steve has everything I look for in a head coach,' Louisville athletics director Tom Jurich said. 'He has a proven track record and has high integrity, great morals and values. I like that he's a coach's son and his father Dave is a highly decorated coach. Steve is a great fit for this community. He has produced extraordinary results in a difficult situation at Tulsa and has endeared himself to that community. Everyone I've spoken with nationally says Steve is a great young man and one of the top young offensive minds in the nation.'Kragthorpe elevated a Tulsa program that had dropped 21 of 22 games before he arrived in 2003 and led the Golden Hurricane to a 29-22 record and three bowl appearances in his four years at the university.Before taking over in Tulsa, Kragthorpe spent two years as the quarterbacks coach of the Buffalo Bills.© 2007 The Sports Network
