Ruston, LA - Bob Toledo was introduced as Tulane
University's new head football coach Monday.
Toledo replaces Chris Scelfo, who earned a pink slip with a 37-57 record in
eight seasons at Tulane, including a 4-8 finish this season.
'I believe Bob will create a winning atmosphere that will bring Tulane fans
back to the Superdome,' said director of athletics Rick Dickson.
'He knows how to coach great football in a great academic setting and he has
the fire and drive to develop a successful program here. Bob is a proven
winner and his enthusiasm for Tulane was apparent from our first conversation
through the entire interview process.'
The 60-year-old Toledo came out of retirement this past season to be the
offensive coordinator and assistant head coach for the University of New
Mexico Lobos. New Mexico finished 6-6 this season, and will face San Jose
State in the New Mexico Bowl on December 23.
'I am very excited about the opportunity to be the head football coach at
Tulane University,' said Toledo. 'Tulane is a well-respected school with an
outstanding academic reputation, and I look forward to creating excitement for
both the fans and program.
Toledo was head coach at UCLA from 1996-2002, where he went 49-32, winning two
Pac-10 championships and leading the Bruins on a school-record 20-game winning
streak. Toledo was fired after a 7-5 finish in 2002.
