Western Michigan to play in first bowl game since 1988

Toronto, ON - Western Michigan on Tuesday accepted a bid to play in the inaugural International Bowl at the Rogers Centre.The game will take place on January 6 and will also feature a school from the Big East. It marks the Broncos first bowl appearance since the 1988 California Bowl.The bowl game is the first to be played outside of the United States since the 1937 Bacardi Bowl in Havana, Cuba.'We are very excited to be participating in the inaugural International Bowl. Toronto is a great city and it will provide our student-athletes with an excellent life experience,' said WMU head coach Bill Cubit.The Broncos ended the 2006 season with an 8-4 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the Mid-American Conference. Their eight wins were the most for the program since the 2000 season.© 2006 The Sports Network
