Philadelphia, PA - Travis Shelton caught a pass for a touchdown and returned a kickoff for another score, as the Temple Owls defeated the Bowling Green Falcons, 28-14, in a non-conference matchup at Lincoln Financial Field.
Adam DiMichele completed 10-of-13 passes for 162 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions as Temple (1-8) ended the longest losing streak in the nation at 20 games.
Tim Brown led the Owls' rushing attack with 104 yards on 21 carries.
The Falcons (4-5) were led by Chris Bullock, who rushed for 182 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries. Bowling Green quarterback Tyler Sheehan connected on 12-of-20 pass attempts for just 95 yards with two interceptions.
Bowling Green took a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter when Bullock broke loose on a 30-yard touchdown run. The score was set up by an interception thrown by DiMichele, which gave the Falcons the ball at the Owls' 30-yard line.
Temple responded with 14 unanswered points to close out the first half. DiMichele threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Shelton and Jason Harper rushed nine yards for a score to give the Owls a 14-7 lead with 4:52 left in the second quarter.
The Owls kept the pressure on in the second half when DiMichele completed a 45-yard touchdown pass to Bruce Francis to push the lead to 21-7 midway through the third quarter.
The Falcons trimmed the Temple lead to 21-14 early in the fourth quarter when Bullock found the end zone on a one-yard touchdown run.
Temple put the game out of reach on the ensuing kickoff when Shelton raced 96 yards for a touchdown. Shelton's scamper tied the school record for the longest kickoff return.
Bowling Green piled up 407 total yards of offense in the game, while Temple had 256 yards. The Owls' last victory was on November 13, 2004 when they defeated Syracuse.
