Edoardo Molinari wins European Tour Shot of the Month award
Nov 3, 2010, 13:03 GMT
Berlin - Italian Ryder Cup player Edoardo Molinari on Wednesday was named as the winner of the European Tour Shot of the Month Award for September.
In a statement issued by the European Tour, the organization said that Molinari won the award for his second shot at the par five 15th hole during the final round of the Omega European Masters at Crans- sur-Sierre.
The elder of the two Molinari brothers hit his iron shot at the 516-yard hole to within two feet of the flag and then holed for an improbable two-under par eagle.
Although Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez went on to win the tournament, Molinari's shot was judged the winner of the September contest.
The Shot of the Month is awarded to the Tour Member for the stroke judged to be the best played each month on The European Tour International Schedule.
At the end of the season, the winning shot from each month will be nominated for The European Tour Shot of the Year Award.
Molinari, who halved two of the three matches he played at the Ryder Cup in Wales last month, joins previous winners: Martin Kaymer of Germany (January and August), Englands Ian Poulter (February), Noh Seung-yul of Korea (March), Lee Westwood of England (April), Englands Luke Donald (May), Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland (June) and Jimenez (July).
