Ryder Cup suspended due to heavy rain as Europe takes early lead

Newport, Wales - Heavy rain forced the suspension of play on the first day of Ryder Cup action Friday in Newport with Europe up in three out of four of the morning's four-balls.
Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer are 2-up after five holes against Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell hold a one stroke lead over Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar through four while Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher are also 1-up after three against Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods.
In the fourth match, American pairing Bubba Watson and Jeff Overton are 2-up against Luke Donald and Padraig Harrington after two.
