Pebble Beach, California - Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell held his nerve under the most intense pressure to clinch his first Major title by winning the US Open Sunday at Pebble Beach.
The 30-year-old recorded a 3-over-par 74 to edge out Frenchman Gregory Havret by one shot and become the first European to win the US Open for 40 years.
McDowell led by four shots at one stage, but in the end a par at the last hole was enough to give him the narrowest of victories.
Havret recorded a 72 to finish one shot behind on 1-over-par, while two-time champion Ernie Els was one shot further back after a 73.
US Masters champion Phil Mickelson and world No 1 Tiger Woods were tied on 3-over-par after both men shot 73 in their final rounds.
American Dustin Johnson, who began the final round three shots clear of McDowell on 6-under-par, had a day to forget with an horrific 82.
