Australia to get Tiger Woods back
Jun 9, 2010, 2:37 GMT
Sydney - Tarnished golf superstar Tiger Woods will return to Melbourne to play in this year's Australian Masters, officials said Wednesday.
Woods received an appearance fee of almost 3 million US dollars to play the Masters in November 2009 and will get the same purse to tee off on November 11 at the Victoria Golf Club.
'The Australian galleries made last year's event a great experience for all the players, and I look forward to playing again,' Woods said in a statement on his website.
The Melbourne event was the prelude to Woods' fall from grace over extramarital affairs, with alleged mistress Rachel Uchitel staying at Melbourne's Crown Towers Hotel at the same time Woods stayed there during the tournament.
Victorian state government Tourism Minister Tim Holding said Woods' appearance last year 'smashed all records, and I expect the interest in Tiger returning to Melbourne will be huge.'
