Welsh schools introduce Ryder Cup theme to curriculum
Mar 23, 2010, 15:22 GMT
London - A new, bilingual Ryder Cup-themed curriculum is to be introduced in schools across the Welsh city of Newport ahead of the 2010 golf tournament between the United States and Europe at Celtic Manor.
The new curriculum was tested out in two schools this week but will be fully launched into schools across the city in September and will run for seven weeks, coinciding with the Ryder Cup, which runs October 1-3.
It is hoped that the initiative will help children learn new skills from literacy and numeracy to equalities, sustainable development, ICT and technology.
I think this gives a perfect example of what the Ryder Cup means to Wales,' former Ryder Cup Captain Brian Huggett said at the official launch.
I think what Newport City Council and the European Tour have achieved with this initiative is wonderful.'
