Guetz goes in front in Toronto

Toronto, ON - Bret Guetz posted a two-under 70 on Friday to move into the lead halfway through the Canadian Tour Championship. He finished two rounds at seven-under-par 137 and is three clear at National Pines Golf Club.Stephen Dixon, Kevin Kim and Mike Sica all shot rounds of one-under 71 on a demanding day at National Pines. Heavy winds and fast greens made for inflated scores.'The golf course is getting really tough,' said Guetz. 'I was hitting it great but just wasn't scoring early on, but I stuck with it and made a few coming in.'Guetz birdied his final two holes to get his round of 70 as he looks for win No. 1 on the Canadian Tour.He has missed only two cuts this season, but had a chance for victory earlier in the year. Guetz took the lead into the final round at the San Jose International Open, but could not get the win.'It's been a solid year, I've been close a few times,' said Guetz. 'It's just a matter of getting the putter going. I've let a couple get away this year, so this would be very gratifying to get one here.'Mike Grob (71), two-time winner this season Wes Heffernan (70), Joe Horowitz (71), Rob Johnson (69), Joseph Lanza (73) and Jim Lemon (71) are knotted in fifth place at minus-three.Overnight leader Eric Wang struggled to a five-over 77 and is part of a group tied for 11th at two-under 142.Money leader Spencer Levin is three-over.The cut fell at plus-four and defending champion Stuart Anderson missed the weekend by two strokes.© 2007 The Sports Network
