It will be cut to the top 70 points earners after this week's event.Woods claimed the Deutsche Bank Championship last year in the middle of his long winning streak, shooting a 63 in Monday's final round to beat Vijay Singh by two strokes.The tournament, played Friday to Monday, will be covered by the Golf Channel on the first two days and by NBC on the last two.The third FedEx Cup Playoffs event, the BMW Championship, is next week. It is a new event on the PGA Tour schedule.EUROPEAN TOURJOHNNIE WALKER CHAMPIONSHIP, The Gleneagles Hotel Perthshire, Scotland - While the FedEx Cup Playoffs are in full swing on the PGA Tour, the European Tour will host the Johnnie Walker Championship.Paul Casey returns as the defending champion after shooting a one-under 72 in the final-round last year to hold off Andrew Marshall and Soren Hansen by a shot.Only six players ranked among the top 100 in the world are playing this week: Casey (20), Colin Montgomerie (41), Lee Westwood (51), Bradley Dredge (60), Jeev Milkha Singh (68) and Y.E. Yang (84).The Golf Channel will have coverage of all four rounds.Next week's event is the Omega European Masters, where Bradley Dredge claimed an eight-shot win last year.LPGA TOURSTATE FARM CLASSIC, Panther Creek Country Club, Springfield, Illinois - Annika Sorenstam will make her first start since the Women's British Open three weeks ago, appearing to defend her title at the State Farm Classic days after announcing her wedding engagement.Unfortunately for golf fans, No. 1 Lorena Ochoa will begin her one-month vacation from the LPGA Tour this week after claiming her third straight win on Sunday at the Safeway Classic.Sorenstam closed with a 10-under 62 in the final round last year -- tying a course record -- to claim her 69th LPGA Tour victory. It was also her last win.The Golf Channel will have coverage of all four rounds beginning at 1:00 p.m. (et) each day.Next week's event is the LPGA NW Arkansas Championship, a new tournament on the schedule.CHAMPIONS TOURFIRST TEE OPEN AT PEBBLE BEACH, Pebble Beach Golf Links/Del Monte Golf Course, Monterey Peninsula, California - Last year Scott Simpson claimed his first Champions Tour win at the First Tee Open, and first win of any kind since the 1998 Buick Invitational on the PGA Tour.The big story this week is the Champions Tour debut of two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer. The Hall of Famer turned 50 on Monday, one day after he tied for third place at the European Tour's KLM Open in the Netherlands.This tournament is like no other on the Champions Tour.Players are teamed with select junior players from around the country and amateur contestants. Friday and Saturday will have play on both courses, with the leading amateur teams and juniors joining the professionals for the final round Sunday at Pebble Beach.The Golf Channel will have coverage of all three rounds.The Champions Tour is off next week, returning on Sept. 14 for the Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn, where Andy Bean won a playoff last year over R.W. Eaks.CANADIAN TOURCANADIAN TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP, National Pines Golf Club, Barrie, Ontario - Clutching his Canadian flag belt last year, Stuart Anderson hoisted the trophy of the newest event on the Canadian Tour.'I had a little lump in my throat,' Anderson said after winning the inaugural Canadian Tour Championship by three shots over fellow Canadian Matt McQuillan.Anderson will be in the field this week to defend his title at the final event of the 2007 season.© 2007 The Sports Network
