Heffernan still on top at Montreal Open

Ile Blizard, QC - Defending champion Wes Heffernan posted a five-under 67 on Friday to take a three-shot lead through 36 holes of the Montreal Open.He stands at 14-under-par 130 and is in front of Canadian Tour money leader Spencer Levin, who shot a four-under 68 on Friday. Brent Schwarzrock carded a six-under 66 and is alone in third at minus-10.Heffernan battled the wind on his front nine Friday and made the turn in even- par. On the second nine, he collected five birdies, including a six-footer at the last.'Those are probably the two best rounds I've had in a tournament,' Heffernan said. 'It was tough out there but I was able to make a couple on the back nine.'Heffernan has struggled since two early wins this season. He missed the cut in his first three events in Canada, but looks to be in good shape for his third victory this year.Byron Smith (66) and Justin Snelling (67) share fourth place at nine-under-par 135. Jason Hartwick (65) and Joseph Lanza (65) are tied for sixth at minus- eight.The 36-hole cut fell at minus-two.© 2007 The Sports Network
