Stuart Appleby leads a field of 34 players this week. Appleby will be going for his fourth straight win at this event. The tournament also kicks off the inaugural season of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup.
Appleby will be joined in the field by Ben Curtis and U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy. Those three are the only multiple winners in the field this week. Four rookies from last year and nine other players are all making their first trip to Kapalua.
If Appleby does win his fourth straight, he will become the first player since Woods to win an event four straight years. Woods won his fourth consecutive Bay Hill Invitational title in 2003.
Last season, Appleby carded a two-under 71 on Sunday to enter a playoff with Vijay Singh, who posted a seven-under 66 in the final round to force the extra session. Appleby got up and down for birdie on the 18th, the first extra hole, to take home his third straight win here.
The Golf Channel will have coverage of all four rounds this week. The first full-field event of the 2007 season will be played next week, the Sony Open in Hawaii, where David Toms is the defending champion.
