Ponte Vedra Beach, FL - Tiger Woods was named the PGA Tour's Player of the Year on Tuesday, marking the eighth time he will receive the Jack Nicklaus Trophy in recognition of his selection.
Woods led the Tour in earnings with more than $9.9 million, capturing eight titles during the season. He won his 11th and 12th career Majors by coming out on top of the British Open and PGA Championship. His season ended with a streak of six straight wins, raising his career total to 54.
'Tiger has shown a remarkable ability to raise his game to the highest level and then sustain that excellence,' said Tour commissioner Tim Finchem. 'Winning the Jack Nicklaus Trophy for the eighth time in 10 years is a testimony to his greatness.'
Woods also won the Arnold Palmer Trophy for leading the Tour in earnings and the Byron Nelson Trophy for having the lowest scoring average (68.11).
South African Trevor Immelman was named the Rookie of the Year. He earned more than $3.8 million. Steve Stricker, meanwhile, was named the Comeback Player of the Year, posting seven top-10s in 17 starts.
