Woods' lead in World Rankings grows even bigger

Aug 28, 2006, 19:05 GMT

Philadelphia, PA - Tiger Woods won his fourth straight start Sunday, a stellar stretch that includes two major championship crowns, and stretched his lead even more in the latest Official World Golf Rankings.

Last week, Woods led by nearly 12 average points, but this week his lead has ballooned to 13.31 over world No. 2 Phil Mickelson. Jim Furyk remained third this week and he was again trailed by Vijay Singh.

The first change this week came in the fifth position where Adam Scott overtook Retief Goosen. Goosen slipped to sixth while his countryman Ernie Els was up one to seventh.

Sergio Garcia also inched up one space to eighth as U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy fell two notches to ninth.

Luke Donald held steady in 10th. David Toms and David Howell exchanged places with the American up to 11th. After that, there was no change in the remainder of the top 20.

American Ryder Cupper Chris DiMarco is still 13th and he was followed by Trevor Immelman, Colin Montgomerie, Jose Maria Olazabal, Henrik Stenson, Padraig Harrington, Tim Clark and Chad Campbell.

Will Mackenzie earned his first PGA Tour crown Sunday at the Reno-Tahoe Open and that helped him jump 271 places to 211th in the new rankings.
