Barcelona - Williams driver Pastor Maldonado on Thursday recorded the fastest time on day three of the pre-season testing in Barcelona.
The Venezuelan, who recorded a time of one minute 22.391 seconds, beat the time of German Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher by nearly one second (0.993), while Kamui Kobayashi in a Sauber had the third-fastest time.
Former world champion Jenson Button, who has taken over the McLaren testing from team-mate Lewis Hamilton, followed the Japanese driver.
The season gets underway with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 18, with five more days of testing before then.
Red Bull, who switched from world champion Sebastian Vettel to Mark Webber, recorded the sixth-fastest time.
