Feb 22, 2012, 6:07 GMT
Barcelona - Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel posted the fastest time on the first day of testing in Barcelona on Tuesday.
The German Red Bull driver clocked a time of one minute, 23.265 seconds on the Circuit de Catalunya, to edge out compatriot Nico Huelkenberg in a Force India by 0.175 seconds.
Former world champion Lewis Hamilton in a McLaren had the third-fastest time, ahead of Australian Daniel Ricciardo in a Toro Rosso.
Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, who earlier in the day unveiled the new Mercedes car for the 2012 season, followed.
Testing in Barcelona is to go on until Friday and the season-opening race is scheduled for March 18 in Melbourne.
