Sutil appeals suspended jail sentence
Feb 8, 2012, 13:50 GMT
Jerez de la Frontera, Spain - Formula One driver Adrian Sutil has filed an appeal against a suspended 18-month prison sentence following a conviction for assault, his manager told dpa Wednesday.
Manfred Zimmermann said Sutil has appealed because 'we are convinced that the ruling is not appropriate.'
Munich court spokeswoman Ingrid Kapa also confirmed that an appeal had been filed.
Sutil was last week convicted by the court in Munich of causing bodily harm to Eric Lux, co-owner of the former Renault-Lotus (now Lotus) team, in a dispute in a Shanghai nightclub in April.
The prison term was suspended for three years and Sutil was also fined 200,000 euros (263,000 dollars).
The 29-year-old German is currently without a drive for 2012 after being replaced by Germany's Nico Huelkenberg at Force India.
Formula One teams were taking part Wednesday in a second day of testing at Jerez.
