Sauber unveil 2012 car and hope for consistency
Feb 6, 2012, 12:31 GMT
Jerez, Spain - Sauber unveiled their 2012 Formula One car on the eve of Tuesday's first pre-season tests, the C31 model featuring a stepped nose like the other teams.
The nose was not as sharply-shaped as that of the Ferrari unveiled on Friday, also lacked the elegant curved design of the new McLaren.
Named ugly by most observers, the stepped nose is a result of new safety regulations in the sport under which the front part of the nose must be lower than the chassis of the car.
Sauber drivers Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi took off the wraps of the car at the pits in Jerez, were the first round of pre-season testing over four days starts on Tuesday. Two more rounds are set ahead of the March 18 season-opener in Australia.
Sauber placed seventh in 2011 with 44 points and team founder Peter Sauber said the team wants to score points consistently in the new season.
