Nov 26, 2011, 14:31 GMT
Sao Paulo - World champion Sebastian Vettel on Saturday set the pace in the final free practice session ahead of qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The German Red Bull driver, who could set a new record later Saturday if he secures his 15th pole of the season, clocked a time of 1 minute 12.360 seconds on the 4.309 kilometre-long Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace.
McLaren's Jenson Button had the second-fastest time - 0.087 seconds slower than Vettel, while Lewis Hamilton in the second McLaren and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso were third and fourth-fastest respectively.
Button goes into Sunday's final race of the season with a 10-point lead in second place from Alonso. Red Bull's Mark Webber is 22 points behind Button in fourth place and still has a theoretical chance to finish runner-up.
Vettel has a commanding lead at the top of the standings with 374 points - 119 more than Button.
