Sep 26, 2008, 15:44 GMT
Singapore - World championship leader Lewis Hamilton recorded the fastest time in the first free practice session for Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix, the first night race in Formula One's history.
The McLaren-Mercedes driver recorded a time of 1 minute 45.518 seconds under floodlights for the 5.067-kilometre Marina Bay Street Circuit, quicker than the Ferraris of Felipe Massa and world champion Kimi Raikkonen.
Massa recorded a fastest lap of 1:45.598 minutes while Raikkönen clocked 1:45.961.
Hamilton leads Massa in the drivers' standings by just one point after failing in his appeal against a 25-second penalty incurred at the Belgian Grand Prix which dropped the Briton from first to third.
