Ecclestone ridicules Mosley's proposed new F2 series

Silverstone, Britain - Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone believes the FIA's proposed new Formula Two series, which would be a rival to his GP2 series, is completely unworkable and has questioned the motives of the boss of motorsport's ruling body, Max Mosley. 'What does Max want to achieve by this? If he wants to share out money, he has to have it first,' Ecclestone said in an interview with the auto, motor und sport magazine. 'We take the money from racing events and media rights. We have contracts with all the teams, which lay down what percentage they receive. If the FIA wants to hand out more money, then they are going to have to find it themselves.' Ecclestone's comments indicates that the battle currently raging between himself and Mosley shows no sign of abating. The 77-year-old is unhappy at Mosley's refusal to stand down after being engulfed in a sex scandal, when he was videoed in the company of prostitutes. FIA's decision to invite tenders to run an F2 series as a low-cost feeder for F1 from 2009 has now added fuel to the fire. Ecclestone ridiculed the FIA claim that it would be possible to restrict budgets to be around 200,000 euros (316,000 dollars) per car each season. 'If Max manages to run a Formula Two car for 200,000 euros a year, then I congratulate him. A season of karting costs more,' Ecclestone said. 'Maybe he will have to use lawnmower engines but would that really be a feeder series for Formula One?' Ecclestone, who together with his partner company CVC currently holds the rights and trademarks to the GP2 series, also called on Mosley to cease delaying a new Concorde Agreement, which regulates what FIA, CVC and the racing teams get from F1 revenues. 'We should be concentrating on how to make the sport better instead of fighting over something that has worked perfectly well for 25 years,' said the Briton. According to auto, motor und sport, Mosley will only sign a new deal when the 10 F1 teams get 92 per cent of the race premiums and 67 per cent of the television revenue. Under the current deal, the teams receive only half. The situation could take another turn on Monday when Mosley's court case against News International over the release by the News of the World of the sex video begins.
