Jun 20, 2008, 10:00 GMT
Magny Cours, France - Felipe Massa led the way for fancied Ferrari on Friday in the first practice session for the French Formula One Grand Prix.
Massa clocked 1 minute 15.306 seconds for the 4.411-kilometres lap and held a massive lead over McLaren-Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton (1:1:16.002), Hamilton's teammate Heikki Kovalainen (1:16.055) and world champion Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari (1:16.073).
Robert Kubica, who got his first career win for BMW two weeks ago in Canada, placed fifth in dry conditions in 1:16.377 minutes.
A second session was scheduled for later Friday.
Kubica leads the championship standings with 42 points from Massa and Hamilton (38 each) and Raikkonen (35). Hamilton will be downgraded 10 positions on the starting grid for Sunday's race for causing a pit lane accident with Raikkonen in Canada.
McLaren have not won in Magny-Cours since 2000 while Ferrari have won five of the last seven races there, the latest being Raikkonen's success in 2007.
