Hamilton among three drivers under FIA investigation over tyre use
Oct 19, 2007, 17:20 GMT
Sao Paulo - World championship leader Lewis Hamilton and two other drivers are under investigation for violating tyre rules in Friday's first practise session for the Brazilian Formula One Grand Prix.
The McLaren-Mercedes driver Hamilton, Honda's Jenson Button and Takuma Sato of Super Aguri are under suspicion of having used two sets of rain tyres during the wet session.
A hearing was scheduled for after the day's second session and penalties not ruled out. According to the rules of the governing body FIA, drivers are only allowed to use one set of tyres for rain and another one for extreme rain in practise.
Hamilton leads the championship into the season-ending race at Interlagos with 107 points from his McLaren team-mate, the two-time defending world champion Fernando Alonso (103), and Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen (100).
Hamilton was only recently cleared in another probe in connection with his driving during a safety car phase at the Japanese Grand Prix.
