Massa extends contract with Ferrari until 2010
Oct 16, 2007, 12:59 GMT
Maranello, Italy - Ferrari confirmed Tuesday that Felipe Massa will stay with the Formula One team until the end of the 2010 season.
The announcement comes ahead of the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend and puts to bed speculation that defending world champion Fernando Alonso could move to Ferrari from McLaren-Mercedes.
Brazilian Massa joined Ferrari in 2006 and lies fourth and out of the running in the drivers' standings, 14 points behind team-mate Kimi Raikkonen and 21 adrift of championship leader Lewis Hamilton of McLaren.
Massa has been under contract with Ferrari since 2001 but he drove with the Sauber-Petronas team before stepping into the Ferrari cockpit last year.
The 26-year-old has registered five victories in 34 races, three of them coming this season. The announcement means Raikkonen and Massa look set to be the Ferrari pairing until at least the end of the 2009 season.
